As we head off on another year its great to reflect on the last few months and all the goings on at the Club. Its been exciting times on the pitch led by our Junior team, unbeaten in the league and now facing into some stiff North Munster opposition starting Sunday 9th January versus Richmond at Old Chapel which should blow away any remaining cobwebs for all of us.
So too the Under 18’s with some great performances in the Pan Munster League and the Under 16’s with much to look forward to in the coming weeks. I would especially like to mention the Under 16 girls team that has been evolving steadily over the Autumn resulting in a great away win over Kanturk 27 – 26 recently. This hasn’t happened by chance but due to phenomenal effort from a small crew of dedicated coaches and I would especially like to mention Emma Lovell and Emily Crowley for the trojan work and enthusiasm that they put into the girls rugby, not to mention the Under 6’s, 7’s and 8’s also. Super congratulations to Aibhe Gibbons and Alica Cronin on playing for Munster Rugby at under 16’s and under 18’s respectively. To all the legion of underage coaches, I would like to extend all our appreciation for the immense enthusiastic effort that each one of you brings to the Club. As I’ve said before, Saturday morning at the Club is the place to be!
So looking forward to 2022 and on the pitch we have that early big league match versus Richmond, a great way to kick off the New Year so lets get out there in numbers to give the guys the best possible support from the sideline.
To be successful on the pitch we also need to be successful off the pitch too and with that in mind I have great pleasure in announcing that we will be holding our Online Zoom Fundraising Auction on Friday the 28th January so make sure to keep that evening free, mark it in your diary and we will have a bit of craic while raising a few Euros for the Club. Also on the fundraising front, congrats to the initiative of the Players Calendar, a simple idea well executed and supported and looks like being a regular item in the coming years. The funds raised from the Calendar have gone to help pay for the magnificent new gym that we know have up and running in the balcony of the clubhouse which every team and player can benefit from. Much credit to everyone involved in putting the gym together, it’s such a great addition to the clubs facilities. Watch out for calendar ideas for next year’s one!
As Bandon Rugby Club continues to grow and flourish, lets do our best to keep it that way and no better way to do that than to join our team of volunteers in any way that you feel you can help, we all have something to offer. So see you on Saturday mornings.
Wishing you all a Healthy and Happy 2022.
See you on the side line.
Richard.
