Richmond 15-28 Bandon
24th January 2016 Limerick
Bandon got their League campaign back on track last Sunday, when they secured a bonus point 28-15 win on the road to Richmond.
Richmond started the stronger of the two, building a wide buffer of 12-3 from penalties in the first half half, due to uncharacteristic persistent fouling from the Bandon Pack.
Bandon came out of the blocks quickly in the second half, when Richie Walsh touched down immediately after the re-start. He failed to convert. (15-13) This spurred the Bandon back line on, they began running at the heavier Richmond back line, taking them on with a refreshed air of confidence. A breakdown in communication in the Richmond center field allowed Ray Naea an opportunity to find a gap, he did not need a second invite and touched down just right of the posts with a powerful change of pace. (15-18) Chris Laidler added a penalty in front of the posts. (15-21) with seconds remaining Richie Walsh again asked questions of the Richmond defence, from a ruck on the half way he sniped wide and danced around the Richmond would be tacklers, bursting into the 22′, with only the full back to beat, he offloaded the ball to his veteran teammate Kevin Lucey who touched down under the posts to secure the Bonus Point, Chris Laidler added the conversion. (15-28)
Bandon did well to regain their momentum after the narrow defeat to Clonmel last week. They will need to keep the wins coming if they want to put pressure on Clonmel’s title race. Bandon take on Cobh in the Junior Cup next Sunday 31st January at 2.30pm
