As the 2026-27 rugby season kicks off this weekend, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new and returning underage players and parents to our club. Rugby is an amazing sport, and the skills gained and friendships made from playing rugby enrich all our lives. I encourage you all to engage with the coaching staff and club officials to ensure the continued growth and development of all our underage players.
I would like to congratulate some of our underage players who have represented Munster at various levels over the past month:
I would like to congratulate some of our underage players who have represented Munster at various levels over the past month:
- Cillian O’Flynn and Lewis Lenihan (U19)
- Niko Przewozniak (U18 Clubs)
- Mark Whelton and Dylan L’Estrange (U18 Schools)
- Ewen Hourigan (U16 Clubs)
- Conor McAleese (U16 Schools)
Congratulations to all of you, and thanks to your parents and families who have nurtured your love for rugby.
I am delighted to welcome Claire Whelton and her team, who are establishing an U.14 Girls team this season. This will enable girls who have been playing beside boys up to U.12 level to continue their rugby journey at Bandon RFC. I would also like to congratulate Niamh and Lisa O'Mahony (both formerly of Bandon RFC) on representing Munster at senior and U.18 levels, respectively over the past month. Developing strong and sustainable girls' teams at all levels is a key goal for the club, and hopefully some of the girls playing with the U.14's this season will follow Niamh and Lisa in representing their province!
The club has undertaken some important work during the summer to improve our facilities for players, parents, coaches and the wider Bandon RFC community. Thanks to all the volunteers who participated in the 'Works Days', which were able organised by John Fullam (our Grounds Officer) and Conor Slattery (our Chairman).
Finally, let me formally welcome Cian Bohane to Bandon RFC. Cian and Scott Kingston will be the coaches for the Junior adult teams this season and together offer a wealth of experience and expertise. The Junior 1 competitive season kicks off this Saturday (September 5th) when we entertain our neighbours Clonakilty in the County Cup at 7pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated as we look to build early-season momentum.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you during what should be another fun and exciting season at Bandon RFC.
Yours in Rugby,
James Coughlan (Jimmy),
President, Bandon RFC
