Presidents Message – 2019-20 Season Beckons
International Rugby in August means Rugby World Cup year and Japanese time zones will certainly have us up early in the morning! Hopefully Joe Schmidt and his men will break that semi-final bogey and who knows after that.
Closer to home our Junior team are back training on week 3 now, under the guidance of our new coaching ticket of Paul Barr, Keith Fuller and Kieran Essex. There is an ambition about the squad this year which feels slightly different to previous years and it is great to see the influx of 2017/18 Under 18s into the squad. Knowing the work that goes on in the background, it gives me great pride as President of our fantastic Club to see this transition from Underage to Adult working so seamlessly. Our women team under the captaincy of Catriona O’Donovan are also back training. Welcome back to all and the very best of luck.
Underage rugby, mini, youths and girls return on Saturday September 7th. Preparations are well under way and coaching groups for all age groups are being finalised. This is the first year having a dedicated Director of Rugby for our Underage Section. Mark Ronan who I would think most of you know at this stage has agreed to take on this vital role. Gary McCormick the Club Youth Officer and gang will continue to organise logistics fixtures and transport with Mark and co taking responsibility for the rugby playing side of the Underage section.
We are delighted that all pitches will be back in operation for this season and facilities further improved with the install of new floodlighting on the training pitch. This was made possible with the receipt of an SEAI energy efficiency grant which the club received by nomination for same by Kevin O’Leary Centra. Many thanks to John O’Leary and family.
Youth teams over the past number of years also have had a midweek training session split in various nights at various times. This year we are proposing that all youth teams – Under 13s through to Under 18.5 – would train at the club under lights on a Tuesday night. The time is to be finalised, but we anticipate that having everyone training at our Old Chapel headquarters will grow into a weekly social event where parents can come and watch and maybe enjoy a coffee in our newly decorated clubhouse. Great credit goes to all the parents who have given up their spare time over the summer to complete the decoration. Great club spirit shown by all.
Registration starts on Saturday September 7th at 10am and as per previous years it is necessary for everyone to re-register to update personal detail etc. This also allows us as a club to communicate effectively with all our members via text, WhatsApp or email. Membership is also due from September 1st and can be paid by Direct Debit, bank transfer, cheque or cash on the day. This year we have kept membership rates same as per 2018/19 season, but we have decided to simplify the packages by discontinuing the combo packages and incorporating the club lotto membership in the annual club membership fee. Our club lotto is one of vital cogs of fundraising and having been won 4 times in the past 14 months! offers a great chance of striking it big. If you’re not in and all that!!
The membership rates can be accessed here Membership Categories 19-20 (2), and I believe these rates offer great value for money in terms of facilities, coaching and overall general well-being in terms of friendship building and camaraderie.
Finally, may I wish all our teams, captains and coaches much success and enjoyment in the forthcoming season. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible over the year and if you would like to contact me for whatever reason, hopefully I can be of help.
Looking forward to seeing you all over the next few weeks.
Dan Murphy President Bandon RFC.
